This is a three-part training for professionals and parents who are interested in learning about cued speech: the research behind it, how the cued speech system is set up, and why and how to apply it to support phonemic awareness skill development in DHH children. 

Part 1:

Learn the research supported rationale for Cued Speech and a brief overview of the cued speech system along with videos showing cued speech being implemented with DHH children.

Session 2:
Fundamentals of Cued Speech: this 1.5-hour Cued Speech training will focus on the basic system of CS and how it is put together. Participants will learn how to cue words with basic C/ V patterns and simple phrases.

Session 3:
Apply your knowledge of Cued Speech during hands on activities to practice with targeted phonemic awareness activities. Participants will utilize cued phoneme cards and mats to be used during this session. We will also go over examples of phonemic awareness skills being taught in Foundations for Literacy for DHH Children and Gen Ed reading curriculum. Additional ways to utilize Cued Speech with other team members (SLP, reading specialist, etc.) will also be discussed.
