An Intermediate Level Immersive Sign Program

This is an intermediate level sign language "class" - but not a class in the normal context!  This opportunity is all about bringing your conversational and academic sign communication to the next level.  It is formatted in a very natural way by giving you conversational opportunities with others advancing their sign language skills, as well as Deaf adults in a small group and 1:1 setting - all through the internet.  Participants meet together through a virtual format for an hour to practice their signing and get feedback from Deaf adults on how to improve their sign abilities.  Topics of conversation and conversation starters are provided the week before, allowing you to practice your skills prior to meeting with the group.  Although this is not strictly an ASL class, there is an emphasis on increasing use of classifiers and facial expression to improve communication.  These skills are useful no matter what form of sign you are using.

Research shows that the best way to build language is to participate in ongoing give-and-take dialog.  This program will do that through Deaf Language Models and other intermediate level peers wanting to increase their sign language abilities.

Requirements to participate in this program include:
1.  A foundation in sign language.  Best recommended for people who have the vocabulary usually taught in ASL 1 and ASL 2.
2.  A strong internet connection (recommended 600kbps/1.2Mbps)
3.  A webcam and regular sized computer screen (no phones) with  good lighting
4.  A quiet and distraction free environment during the class.

"As a third year DHH teacher and one who had my first year of itinerant teaching this past school year, this website is such a great tool! The modules are very helpful, offer great insight, and I love that they can be done on your own time. The monthly meet ups are great as well, as it’s a time for us to share ideas and feedback with each other. I am looking forward to the future of the website!!"

"This signing program was awesome! Stefanie was great. We participated in this signing program to be able to communicate with our non-verbal 3 year old. While we had some basic signs, Stefanie was able to help us start having basic conversations. The online training and resources she had us use really helped us gain more confidence in communicating with each other and our son. We would definitely recommend this training! Thanks Stefanie!"

Laura and Alex
