Building Collaboration with Adults MASTER CLASS

This quotation by Anais Nin serves as the foundation for genuine understanding of collaboration. This Master Class will focus on core tenets for working with others. Pulling from related fields, the information presented in this Master Class will help you work smarter, not harder, and pave the way for you to “go with the flow rather than fight the current” in collaborating with others. Participants will start by assessing and examining their own interpersonal style of communication. Over the course of the three sessions, five new strategies/tools will be introduced and practiced. Participants will be guided and supported in applying new learning to their work with teachers, and students with hearing loss and their families.
Target Audience: Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Participant Outcomes:
- Participants will assess their current style of interpersonal communication.
- Over the course of three sessions, participants will learn and apply five new strategies/mindsets for effectively collaborating with others.
- Participants will apply new learning to case studies situated in the field of deaf education.
Brittany Dorn, PhD
Brittany is the K-12 Educational Services Manager at Nine East Network, an organization that serves students who are DHH across the state of Vermont. Brittany earned her doctorate in special education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2019, and her Master’s degree in Deaf Education from Smith College in 2011. She previously worked in general education as a second grade teacher, and then in deaf education as an itinerant teacher for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. She has published nationally on topics related to deaf education; most notably about consultation, which is her primary research interest.
