Enlisting the village and creating buy-in among general education teachers is difficult!  This workshop provides tips and tools for  DHH teachers and other professionals to be able to “enlist the village” and connect more fully with others to provide ongoing inservicing, build relationships, and better communicate with the entire IEP team on the impact of hearing loss, what the student’s needs are, and how to truly meet those needs. Tips and tools include: Email Schedulers, Loom Videos, automated check-in sheets, communication logs and daily planner pages.

Target audience:  Administrators, and professionals working with children with hearing loss.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will understand the value of collaboration with general ed teachers and other members of the IEP
  2. Learners will be able to identify and utilize 5 tools to help build collaboration and communication with general ed teachers and other members of the IEP team
  3. Know what not to do in forming relationships with general education teachers and other members of the IEP team.

Stefanie Kessen, creator of The Online Itinerant, has over 20 years experience working with students with hearing loss and building relationships with the team that supports those children. She has been a teacher of all ages, from birth through college age, and works with both signing and oral students of all backgrounds. Stefanie has trained many professionals on working with students with hearing loss from around the state of Wisconsin and the U.S. Her favorite passion is empowering others to feel confident in their role - either as teachers, students, interpreters, or family members.

 MCDHH is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Education K12 program is offered for .1PS  RID CEUs at the Little/None Content Knowledge Level.
