An Administrator's Journey

Join Dr. Jennifer Zynda as she shares her journey as an administrator understanding the needs of DHH students, professionals and families. Dr. Zynda will share her experience and perspective on how to best build collaboration and communication to meet the needs and impact the outcomes of this unique population of students. Dr. Zynda discusses her journey through understanding social/emotional needs, interpreting, captioning, technology and more.  She will encourage, inspire, and empower you!

Target audience:  Administrators, professionals and parents of a children with hearing loss.

Learner Outcomes:

1. Learners will understand the background of an administrator and their general knowledge of deaf education prior to becoming an administrator.
2. Learners will be able to identify 3 ways an administrator can be supported on their journey as they learn the unique needs of students with hearing loss.
3. Learners will be able to identify the challenges that administration faces in overseeing meeting the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
4. Learners will be able to fill out a meeting document/case consult document to help guide a meeting to discuss student concerns with administration.

Dr. Zynda began her career as a School Psychologist. In this role she was first introduced to the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as a student with a cochlear implant moved into her small district. The first thing she did was attend an eye opening workshop on working with students with cochlear implants. It was at this time that Dr. Zynda first realized that a hearing loss needed more than she initially thought. Later, as the Director of Student Services & Special Education, she began the process of setting up itinerant services for a single student transferring from a DHH program back to her home school. What started out meeting the needs of one student eventually evolved into meeting the needs of over 30 students in her district. She now oversees itinerant services for DHH students with supports from multiple DHH teachers, Interpreters, an Educational Audiologist and even captioning service providers.

MCDHH is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Education K12 program is offered for .1 GS RID CEUs at the Little/None Content Knowledge Level.
