Comprehensive List of Assessments to Evaluate Students with Hearing Loss

Determining special education eligibility and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) requires a comprehensive, whole-child approach. Rather than focusing on a disability label, IEP teams should prioritize a needs-based evaluation to ensure accurate eligibility decisions, create actionable IEP goals, and foster meaningful student progress.  This document provides a list of resources to help evaluate a whole child with hearing loss.  Many of the tools are linked inside the Academy.

Listening and Spoken Language Development

This Audit-Proof IEP Bundle includes your pre and post assessments, IEP goals/objectives, data collection sheets and linked activities for each skill.

This checklist is designed to support educational teams in evaluating a student's current listening and spoken language abilities, identifying language needs, and determining appropriate services in educational settings.

Let's Talk Audiograms will teach your student the different degrees of hearing loss, how to chart hearing loss on an audiogram, different types of hearing loss and what it all means in the real world!

Share with teachers, coaches, instructors, or anyone else who needs to understand how their hearing loss impacts them.

This template provides you with downloadable slides. You can modify them to your liking and then download them as a .pdf file (in case you want to share them digitally or print them). This way, you will have a tailor-made version on your computer.

SELF-IDENTITY LESSON: LAUREN RIDLOFF

When Lauren's family learned that she was deaf, they embraced sign language.  Lauren started at a school with hearing students, but didn't feel like she belonged.  Lauren has always believed that whatever makes you different is exactly what makes you powerful.

She took this belief to the stage and even to Hollywood. Lauren Ridloff was cast as Makkari in the movie Eternals.  She made history by becoming the very first Deaf superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!  Learn how she did it and what you can learn from her!
