About the Event
Join us for an unforgettable day in beautiful Cozumel as we bring our community together for a meaningful service project!
The Online Itinerant is hosting a Deaf Pride Day for the deaf and hard of hearing children in Cozumel. Join us as we celebrate these children and their families in a fun and unique way. Our mission is to create a welcoming, accessible space where practical help meets celebration.

SERVICE PROJECT STATIONS:
You will have the opportunity to volunteer at the following stations. Once you register, you will be sent a form to communicate your first and second choice of stations:
1. Hearing & Communication Services

Hearing Aid Disbursement: Children and families who attended our Hearing Clinic in October will finally receive and be fitted for their new hearing aids!

Maintenance Workshops: Parents and teachers will receive hands-on guidance to help them check, clean, care for, and troubleshoot hearing devices.

Mexican Sign Language (LSM) Intro Class: A fun, beginner-friendly session to help learn basic signs and bridge communication gaps.
2. Family Activities & Fun

Crafts Corner: Creative, hands-on projects for kids and adults alike.

Outdoor Games: Active outdoor games for all ages (with a seamless indoor backup plan ready if it rains!).

Family Photo Booth: Families will be photographed and gifted a picture celebrating their child.
3. Gifts and Donations

Donation Station: This station will provide a set number of donated gifts for each family. They will choose from practical, high-need items to support their daily lives. Families can look forward to taking home a selection of essentials, which may include school supplies, hearing aid accessories and care products, personal care toiletries, and other helpful everyday goods thoughtfully provided through donations.
Who Should Volunteer?
This service project is designed for attendees of the Deaf Education Conference and Networking Cruise who are ready for an active, highly rewarding day of giving back!
Please keep the following guidelines in mind before signing up:

Active Participation Required: This is a hands-on service event, and all volunteers should be prepared to work throughout the day.

Children as Volunteers: Kids are very welcome to serve alongside you in the Crafts and Outdoor Games stations! However, they are expected to actively volunteer and participate for the entire duration of the event.

Full-Day Commitment: Volunteers must remain with the group for the full schedule and will not be permitted to leave the venue independently. Because this project takes up most of our port time, personal shopping and independent sightseeing on Cozumel will be extremely limited.
If you are unable to commit to the full timeframe or active workload, we recommend taking this port day to explore the island on your own instead!

*All activities and schedules are tentative and subject to change based on weather and maritime conditions. This event is contingent on the ship docking in Cozumel on January 16, 2027.
HOW THE EVENT WORKS
PHASE 1:
Hearing Clinic
Dates: October 15-18
The team of volunteers will travel to Cozumel and provide hearing screenings and testing to the children on the island. The screening/testing dates will be October 16-17, with the day before and the day after designated as travel dates.
During this time, the goal is to provide otoscopic exams, pure tone audiometry, bone conduction testing and typanometry. Plans are in place to provide free hearing aids to those who qualify, and workshops to parents, caregivers and teachers on how to maintain equipment and develop communication and language skills to these children.

PHASE 2:
Deaf Education Conference and Networking Cruise with a Service Project on Cozumel
Dates: January 14-18
In January 2027, we will return to Cozumel with programmed hearing aids during the Deaf Education Conference and Networking Cruise. While the cruise is in port, we plan to provide hearing aid fittings and dispensing* for children identified during the October clinic.
During this time, we will offer parent and teacher workshops and entertainment from performer Keith Wann.

Your donation will help us create a completely FREE Deaf Pride Day for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and their families in Cozumel. Donations will help provide hearing aids and supplies, family photos, activities and crafts for the kids, educational opportunities for families, and other costs associated with making this day possible. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us create a day where these children are celebrated, supported, and connected with their community. We would be incredibly grateful to have you be part of it!

**The Cozumel Service Project scheduled for January 16 during the Deaf Education Conference and Networking Cruise is dependent on the ship successfully docking in Cozumel. While every effort will be made to carry out services as planned, unforeseen conditions (such as weather or port restrictions) may prevent docking.
In the event this occurs, all donated hearing aids will still be delivered in person at a later date to ensure that children receive the support they need.
